The Weekly Edit

This week, after some absolutely freezing mornings we focus on how to dress your windows properly to retain warmth.

We also have a colour focus on Burgundy and Plum and showcase some winter baking.

1. Window Warmth

As we navigate through these chilly days, it's crucial to implement effective window treatments to retain warmth indoors. Opt for thicker fabrics layered with good quality lining, especially if your windows are single-glazed. Extending the curtains from floor to ceiling enhances the insulation properties.

Honeycomb blinds also offer superior insulation properties and can provide instant relief to heat loss and excessive power bills. Given the low position of the winter sun, household items such as carpet and furniture are susceptible to fading. To counteract this, installing roller blinds in sun-exposed areas is recommended. Roller blinds offer a cost-effective and swift solution to safeguarding your interiors, ensuring longevity for your decor and an additional layer of insulation when paired with curtains.

2. Burgundy & Plum

Burgundy and plum are rich, sophisticated hues that can bring depth and warmth to interior spaces.

When incorporating these colours, consider using them as focal points to create a sense of drama and elegance. For instance, painting an accent wall in a deep burgundy shade can instantly add a touch of glamour to a room, while plush plum-coloured upholstery can create a statement piece.

Additionally, integrating these colours through accessories such as rugs, artwork, or curtains can tie the room together and enhance its overall aesthetic. For a more subtle approach, opt for burgundy and plum accents against neutral backdrops like creamy whites, allowing the colours to pop without overwhelming the space.

 3. Plum Cake

Winter baking brings a sense of comfort and warmth to the coldest of days, as the aromas of freshly baked treats fill the air.

It's a time for indulging in hearty desserts and dense cakes that not only satisfy the sweet tooth but also provide a cosy respite from the chill outside. From spiced apple pies and cinnamon-infused bread puddings to decadent chocolate cakes, the repertoire of winter delights is endless.

These desserts, often served warm and topped with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream, offer a comforting escape from the frosty weather. The process of baking itself becomes a therapeutic ritual, as the kitchen fills with the scent of baking spices.
