The Weekly Edit

This week we explore African inspired interiors and have a spotlight on the bold, yet versatile colour - cobalt blue.

Additionally we are sharing a delightful winter beetroot soup recipe as soup season has well and truly arrived.

1. Inspired by Africa

African-inspired themes are characterised by vibrant cultural elements and natural materials. Earthy tones like browns, greens, and tans are complemented by vivid accents such as reds, yellows, and blues.

Traditional African motifs, including tribal patterns, geometric shapes, and animal prints, are often featured in textiles, wall art, and furnishings. These interiors also embrace a sense of warmth and community, with spaces designed to be inviting and communal. Large, comfortable seating arrangements, low tables, and open floor plans are common features.

Natural light is maximised through large windows, while ambient lighting from lanterns, candles, and earthy lampshades enhances the atmosphere. Incorporating plants and greenery brings a touch of nature indoors, further reinforcing the connection to the environment. Let’s go on safari!!

2. Colour Focus - Cobalt Blue

Cobalt blue is a striking choice, adding a bold and sophisticated touch to any space. This vibrant hue works well as an accent colour, bringing depth and energy to rooms.

It can be used on walls for a dramatic effect or in smaller doses through accessories like cushions, rugs, and artwork. Cobalt blue pairs beautifully with neutral tones such as whites, greys, and beiges and also compliments metallic finishes, particularly gold and silver, adding a touch of elegance and luxury.

In living rooms, cobalt blue sofas or armchairs can serve as statement pieces, while in kitchens, cobalt blue tiles or cabinetry provide a fresh, contemporary feel. This colour also works well in bedrooms, offering a restful yet stylish atmosphere when used in bedding or curtains.

 3. Soup Season

As soup season arrives, there's nothing more comforting than a warm bowl of homemade soup to ward off the chill. This week, we're spotlighting a delightful winter warmer: beetroot soup. Rich in colour and flavour, beetroot soup is not only visually appealing but also packed with nutrients, making it a perfect choice for the colder months.

Its earthy sweetness and vibrant hue create a hearty dish that’s both nourishing and satisfying. Soup season is the ideal time to experiment with various ingredients and flavours, embracing the abundance of seasonal produce. From creamy pumpkin soups to hearty lentil stews, the possibilities are endless.

Loving for 2024

I am loving these African inspired wall plates as a decor choice. They bring a sense of richness and artistic elegance to one’s home.

Design Tip

For wall art, start by laying out your pieces on the floor to find the perfect arrangement before hanging them. Mix different sizes and styles, and maintain consistent spacing between each piece to create a cohesive and visually appealing display.
