The Weekly Edit
This week we talk about monochromatic colour schemes, highlight an amazing light called Code we recently used in a client’s home and provide 3 tips on refreshing your space.
1. Monochromatic
Lately, there has been a noticeable surge in trends with some clients favouring monochromatic colour schemes embracing a more unified look.
Monochromatic schemes offer a timeless elegance and versatility, allowing for subtle accents to be introduced through furnishings, decor and artwork. The strategic use of textures plays a crucial role in infusing life and vitality into these minimalist palettes, offering depth and dimension into the space.
Think polished marble juxtaposed with the roughness of natural wood or the plushness of velvet against metallic accents.
2. Lighting - Code
Code is a system of modular lighting from Night Works Studio based in Christchurch.
It is a series of circular components, arranged to create individual and beautiful light fixtures. Created with hand-blown glass and solid brass, the designs and namesake are drawn from the dots and dashes of Morse code.
We recently put one of these light fixtures in a client’s staircase to elevate the ambience and create a statement piece. Statement lighting in a home is essential and it serves as both a functional necessity and a striking design element, adding character and class to a space.
3. Refresh Your Home
Update Accessories and Lighting
Swap out old, worn-out pieces with new ones that reflect your current style and taste and invest in statement lighting fixtures or lamps to create focal points and enhance ambience.
Play with Colour and Texture
Inject life into your new home by painting accent walls or using wallpaper and introduce different textures through rugs, curtains, cushions and upholstered furniture.
Furniture placement or Replacement
Consider replacing a key furniture piece or simply move it to a different location to revitalise your space.
4. Katy's Mini Edit
Loving for 2024
I love the designer ice-cube trend at the moment and really want to give them a go next time I host a wee gathering. You can use florals, herbs to enhance the flavour of a drink or can actually buy different silicone moulds like ones shaped as a rose. So pretty
Design Tip
When considering lighting design, remember to layer different types of lighting including ambient, task and accent lighting, to create a well balanced and versatile space that meets both aesthetic and functional needs.
Tips For February
Make the most of the last few days of summer by getting out for some walks before/after work or on the weekends. Walking provides an opportunity to disconnect from the stressors of everyday life and reconnect with the nature.
