STYLING & DESIGN 101
There are a few topics that we love to chat about and styling is one of them - the cherry at the end of the design process. Today we wanted to dive into some Styling Tools to help you style your sideboard or console well!
When your surfaces are styled thoughtfully and personally they can bring your space to life as well helping to organise clutter!
There are so many styling options to explore, so we have brought everything you need here on the blog.
Styling is very intuitive and is a process - you very often don't get it right the first time. It takes time to place objects then edit and edit again, before landing on your final design. Although we often use our gut rather than follow a strict formula it doesn't mean there isn't a process and key elements we use for each project. We have bought together some tips for you to achieve your own sideboard styling success.

1. Clear the clutter
Regardless of the size of your sideboard create a blank canvas by removing all the objects and art that currently reside on or in your piece of furniture. With cleared surfaces you can easily assess the sizes and spaces you have to play with.

2. Ground below
It is important when you are styling open console units to ground the bottom of the unit by providing visual weight and balance with larger items. More substantial sized items such as woven baskets, large vases and stacked books can provide the size and dimension you need.

3. Create your above ground moment
We like to use large artwork or a mirror as a starting point for your display. Items that take 2/3rds of your surface give the dimension that you need and this is an opportunity to select an item that will command attention or coordinate with the rest of the room's decor.
Either hanging or leaning the artwork is an option - just make sure you discreetly secure the piece if you are leaning it against the wall!!

4. Add significant decor items
This step involves adding some height and interest with significant sized decor items - think lamps, large vases and vessels and even layering additional artwork. The key here is to layer these pieces in front of your anchoring artwork or mirror to provide connectivity to the scheme.

5. Layer in interest
Once you have your main objects settled it's time to add in the interest and personality. There are numerous ways to add styling interest - we like to use greenery and florals, decorative objects with interesting shapes, boxes that can provide a 'drop zone' for small items, candles and seasonal decor.

How To Pick The Perfect Sideboard
1. Consider Function
Consider the function that you need out of your console or sideboard. If you are wanting storage capability and have the space then bigger sideboard pieces with cupboards and shelves may suit your needs.
2. Consoles
If you have a busy entryway space to fill then a console might be more suitable with a simple lower and upper shelf arrangement. + appropriate sideboards
3. Small, Tall & Mighty
You might be looking to fill a space between windows or have a small gap on the wall therefore a narrow but tall option might suit your needs. Styling options remain the same on this size item just scale your decor back to suit the size.
